Second Nature is an artwork that explores the theme of ‘growth’ by investigating patterns of growth in nature and comparing them to the pattern of community growth across the landscape.

The sculpture is a metaphor for growth. The veins in the leaves of the shade structure are a map of the local area, the branching, networking patterns of streets echoing the patterns of veins in a leaf.
